Harry Maguire Discusses His Status as the World’s Most Expensive Defender

By db-admin

DBasia.news –  Discussing his fantastic price tag, Harry Maguire, the Manchester United defender, wants the public to judge him in the next five or six years.

Man United bought Maguire from Leicester City this summer for £ 80 million. This makes it the world’s most expensive defender after Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool defender, who has a tag of £ 75 million.

Maguire’s appearance did provide an increase in United’s defense. But collectively, the England national team defender could not make much of a contribution because his team-mates also played poorly.

Nevertheless, Maguire is still rated as one of United’s best and effective purchases because the club needs a quality center back figure and can lead. Instead of evaluating it today, Maguire would rather be judged five or six years later.

“This (recruiting Maguire long-term), this is the most important thing. In five or six years, then my value – whether I succeed or not at United,” said Maguire at Inside United.

“I believe and am very confident about it, in five or six years, I will be successful and I am sure we will have a lot of good times here.”

“We must continue to develop as a team, not just me as an individual. I feel, if we develop as a team, I will also be successful,” continued Maguire.

Maguire also claimed not to be burdened by his status as the world’s most expensive defender. According to him, the price is not something he can influence because the official price is an agreement between the two clubs.

“That (transfer price) did not bother me at all. This is something I cannot influence. Leicester wants to keep me and they are in a great position as a club,” added Maguire.

“Manchester United wants to buy me and they come to reach an agreement. This is probably a good deal for both sides and this is something else, now I am focused on developing the game,” he explained
