Harry Maguire Officially Joined Manchester United

DBasia.news –  Manchester United have officially recruited 26-year-old defender Harry Maguire from Leicester City. United made him the world’s most expensive defender with an official price of 80 or 85 million pounds.

“Manchester United is happy to confirm the success of recruiting Harry Maguire from Leicester City. Harry signed a six-year contract with an option to renew a year,” said a statement on United’s official website. 

Maguire became the third recruit for the Red Devils in the transfer market this summer after Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The former Sheffield United and Hull City defender has made 76 appearances and scored five goals in two years in Leicester uniform.

In his first opportunity to speak as a United player, Maguire expressed his gratitude to fans and Leicester for their support for the past two years.

“I am happy to sign a contract with this great club. I enjoyed my time at Leicester and want to thank everyone at the club, and also the fans, for their fantastic support for the past two years,” said Maguire.

“However, when Manchester United knocks on your door (making an offer), then this is a very great opportunity,” he continued.

In addition to saying thanks to Leicester, Maguire revealed the reason for joining United. Maguire claimed to be interested in the project being developed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to form a championship team.

“From my conversation with the manager, I am interested in the vision and plans for the team. It’s clear that Ole built a team to win the trophy. I am now looking forward to meeting with my new teammates and starting a new season,” added Maguire.

Maguire’s arrival made the central defender’s position crammed with player stock. Besides Maguire, United still have Marcos Rojo, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, and Axel Tuanzebe. Competition in that line will be tight.
