Heiko Vogel Discusses History of His Meeting with Mohamed Salah

However, Mohamed Salah is not big-headed. He still maintains his relationship with his former coach, Heiko Vogel.

“I am more confident about other players (players who have been trained, and the character has changed). I saw Toni Kroos and Eden Hazard when I was 15 years old,” explained Heiko Vogel as reported by Mirror.

“One of the nicest is that I met Mohamed Salah last year and he hasn’t changed at all. That was incredible,” he added.

Basel had carried out an in-depth investigation before bringing Mohamed Salah in 2012. Basel deliberately held a trial match against the Egypt U-23 national team to see Salah’s ability firsthand.

After that, Basel invited Mohamed Salah to practice for one week. Vogel admitted Salah had difficulties and his performance was far below the quality in the video shown by talent scouts.

“I asked if the video was accelerated. It has everything, speed, final resolution, and a strong left foot,” Vogel said.

“Then, he practiced on the first day. Everyone wondered if he had a twin sister. On the second day, his abilities were headed in a better direction, but still not enough.”

“Then came the third day. At that moment, he destroyed everything, really terrible and extraordinary. He was very fast. If you have the ball in his left foot, it will end with a goal. After that, everyone understands the reason we recruited him.”
