DBasia.news –  Taking place at the Vodafone Arena, Istanbul, Turkey, on Thursday (8/15) early morning Western Indonesian Time, Liverpool defeated Chelsea and won the European Super Cup title.

The second trophy in the Jurgen Klopp era came to the Liverpool trophy cabinet. After winning the Champions League the previous season, now the Reds embrace the European Super Cup.

Facing Chelsea, Liverpool performed with his best squad, minus goalkeeper Alisson. The Brazilian goalkeeper suffered an injury when the Reds won 4-1 against Norwich.

The match continued into the penalty shootout after the score 2-2 closed the second half. Each goal is created by kicking Sadio Mane (2 Liverpool goals) and Olivier Giroud and Jorginho (Chelsea).

In the end, Liverpool came out victorious after Tammy Abraham failed to do his job properly. The Reds also won the first European Super Cup duel between the English club.

The match marked Jurgen Klopp’s 800th match as manager. Klopp has the highest average win over Liverpool, 57 percent.

Olivier Giroud is sharper when playing in Europe with Chelsea. Evidently, Giroud scored 12 goals in 16 matches in Europe, while only seven goals in 49 domestic matches

Sadio Mane became the first African player to score in the European Super Cup final since Frederic Kanoute in 2006. Mane also contributed 19 goals in 2019.

Only Barcelona and AC Milan have won more European Super Cups than Liverpool’s four. Meanwhile, Chelsea lost three times at the event, only losing to Barcelona and Sevilla.
