Frenkie de Jong

DBasia.news –  Barcelona successfully recruited Frenkie De Jong from Ajax Amsterdam. The club successfully won the struggling duel for the talented Dutch youngster from Manchester City and PSG. Barca Vice President, Jordi Mestre, thinks it will be challenging to get.

According to Mestre, Barcelona only has a prestigious side from their long line of history, tradition, and the club’s big name in Europe as their main asset to convince De Jong in joining Camp Nou.

If  measured from the financial side, Mestre admits Barcelona is unable to compete with Man City and PSG which are supported by the power of money from the Middle Eastern consortium.

“We are aware that De Jong is a popular player, many clubs are attracted. The same goes for Jean-Clair Todibo, and in Barcelona we can’t financially compete with clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain or Manchester City. We need to convince players with other ways,” explains Mestre, as quoted from Football Oranje.

Though De Jong has expressed to us that he has always wanted to play in Barcelona, it’s true that offers from other clubs has made him doubtful, it’s understandable, he’s only human. If it was for the money, De Jong wouldn’t have joined Barcelona. So we would have lost the battle,” he explains.

The 21-year old player’s choice to join with Barca was much appreciated by Europe’s football lovers, that has strong traditions on Dutch players, the ideal place for De Jong to expand his career.

There De Jong will deepen his typical Netherlands total football material that he learnt from Ajax Academy with Barca’s football philosophy, which is also underlines on total football. De jong could also be Barca’s long term investment.

Learning, sharing locker rooms, and training with top players such as Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic, Luis Suarez, and Gerard Pique will boost his ability and knowledge for the Arkel born player (May 12th  1997).
