Julian Nagelsmann Worsens Jose Mourinho’s Bad Record

By db-admin

DBasia.news –  RB Leipzig was able to reap victory against Tottenham Hotspurs in the Champions League first leg, Thursday (2/20) AM, with a score of 1-0. Thanks to the victory, RB Leipzig added a bad record for Spurs manager, Jose Mourinho.

That result further exacerbated the record of Jose Mourinho, Tottenham’s manager, in the knockout stages of the Champions League. The Special One never won during the last seven knockout stages after lastly winning it in 2014 against PSG (Paris Saint-Germain).

The details of the seven matches was when coaching Chelsea (four matches), Manchester United (two matches), and Tottenham (one match).

“Jose Mourinho has failed to win in the last seven matches in the knockout stages of the Champions League with Chelsea (four), Manchester United (two) and Tottenham (one) combined,” @SkySportsStatto wrote.

Instead his colleague in Leipzig, Julian Nagelsmann, has set a great record in the form of the first all-round record at the youngest age of coaches in Champions League history. At the age of 32, according to Squawka, Nagelsmann became the youngest coach of all time who played the knockout stages of the Champions League, kept a clean sheet and won.

Tottenham trailed 0-1 with an away goal scored by Werner. However, Jose Mourinho is not at all worried that his team can reverse the situation in Germany, as the lag is still realistic to be pursued or reversed.

“0-1 is 0-1, not 0-10. The results are still open. It’s that simple,” said Jose Mourinho, as quoted by the Guardian.

“We won’t be the first team to lose 0-1 at home and win this duel in away games. Why don’t we do it?” said the Portuguese manager.

Interestingly from Opta’s record, when Mourinho lost the first leg of the Champions League knockout phase his team was always eliminated, like when he coached Chelsea in the 2005-06 season and Real Madrid in the 2010-11 season (both lost to Barcelona).

It is interesting to wait for Mourinho’s strategy to stop the pace of RB Leipzig’s play in Germany, especially to stop Timo Werner who has scored 26 goals in 32 games this season and seven of them scored in away games.
