DBasia.news – Four years have passed since Kevin De Bruyne moved from Wolfsburg to Manchester City. Under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola, De Bruyne grew rapidly and became a part of success in winning the Premier League and League Cup titles.
But before achieving much success at Etihad Stadium, the Belgian first defended the other Premier League clubs, Chelsea in 2012 to 2014, unfortunately, the lack of opportunity to play made De Bruyne then undergo more loan periods with Werder Bremen and his old club, KRC Genk.
After a long time being reluctant to talk about what made him choose to leave Chelsea, De Bruyne finally opened his voice. The player who plays as a midfielder revealed that Jose Mourinho was the cause of his departure from Stamford Bridge.
“When I returned from loan and then joined Chelsea’s pre-season tour, things went well. I also played two of the first four games and then thought if I had performed well enough, though not too good,” De Bruyne said as reported by Goal.
“But after the fourth match, I continued to be on the bench and never again got the chance to appear.” There was no explanation whatsoever. I was exiled from the squad for some reason,” he added.
The player born in Drongen, Belgium also tells the moment when Mourinho said that he was not the main choice in the Blues squad.
“Jose Mourinho called me to his office in December – it was the biggest and most important moment in my football career. There was a lot of paper in front of him and he said ‘one assist, zero goal’. I was confused by what he said, then he read the statistics of other players, Juan Mata, Oscar, Andre Schurrle, and Willian. On average they score five goals or 10 assists, “he continued.
“I then answered ‘Yes, they played 15 or 20 matches, while I only appeared three times, didn’t I? Mourinho then returned to talk and said’ Yes, you know, if Mata leaves, then you will be the fifth choice after previously being the sixth choice ‘, ” De Bruyne added.
This also strengthened De Bruyne’s decision to immediately leave Stamford Bridge, even he also felt that he was no longer needed in the squad.
“I immediately answered Mourinho’s statement and said, ‘I think the club doesn’t want my presence on the team. I want to play football and it looks like it would be better if you (Mourinho) let me go to another club,’ ” he explained.
De Bruyne’s decision to leave London seems to be the right step after the 2017/18 season helped City win the Premier League and League Cup, now in the 2018/19 season, The Citizens are also still likely to end the season with four different trophies.
