DBasia.news – UEFA’s decision to conduct the third club competition after the Champions League and Europa League raised the critic. One of the critics come from LaLiga.

Previously, UEFA announced the new club competition starting 2021-2022. It means there would be three club competitions.

Currently, UEFA is the foundation among two club competition, Champions League and Europa League. In the past, there were other competitions like Winners Cup and Intertoto Cup.

However, UFA thinks the participants of Europa League are too plenty. Currently, there are 48 clubs participating and 8 clubs from the Champions League.

The new competition would be the channel to reduce the participants of the Europa League. Later, the Champions League, Europa League, and the new competition would be joined by 32 clubs.

However, not everyone accepts that idea. LaLiga rejects it due to the big impact in European football.

“Europa League 2 will place greater demands on smaller clubs, who are the basis of healthy competition and the growth of European football, and risks creating a further divide within leagues of those who have lucrative European football and those who don´t,” said LaLiga President Javier Tebas.

Javier Tebas asked UEFA to do the changes regarding the access and revenue access of the third competition in order to balance the domestic competition.

Javier Tebas also asked UEFA to eliminate the coefficient system that is outdated. Apparently, the system is beneficial for the team with a good past record compared to the current achievement.

“It’s imperative to review the way revenue is distributed in the whole UCC model, including of course the financial distribution of Champions League. Through further dialogue, a more inclusive and democratic model of European competition can be created, that respects the economic stability and the competitive equilibrium of the national leagues,” Javier Tebas said.

“This is one of the greatest challenges faced today across our continent and if it is not tackled decisively, it could have disastrous consequences in the long term,” he added.

Previously, UEFA stated that they got the support from ECA. ECA President, Andrea Agnelli, declared their decision to UEFA plan.
