Lampard Frustrated Chelsea Heeded His Warning of Arsenal’s Long-ball Tactic
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Frank Lampard expressed his frustration after watching Chelsea fail to lift the FA Cup trophy and heeded his warning about Arsenal’s long ball tactics.
The Blues seemed to be closing the season with the first trophy for Lampard when Christian Pulisic managed to put them ahead in the early minutes of the game.
But Aubameyang brought the Gunners level from the penalty spot in the 28th minute after he was brought down by Cesar Azpilicueta in his own goal area.
The Arsenal captain returned to the Chelsea goal midway through the second half by utilizing a direct ball from Kieran Tierney, much like he did when he won his team in the semifinals against Manchester City.
Lampard admitted that the prolific striker was the differentiator between the two teams in the match, but despite that he was disappointed because his team failed to follow his advice.
“I mean he scored two goals, one from a penalty,” Lampard said after the match at Wembley. “We were very aware of the threat. Arsenal plays a long ball behind you. They play well, but they also have the threat of a long ball behind you.”
“The frustrating part of the game is when you show it to the players and work to overcome it, but we let them enter easily.”
“Aubameyang is a quality player. The second goal shows the speed and quality of his level in a player who wins a game like this.”
