Leeds Was Fined After Spying on the Opponents

DBasia.news –  British club Leeds United was sentenced to a fine and was reprimanded by the English Football League (EFL), for spying against the opposing club.

Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds coach from Argentina, admitted last month that his staff had peered into all club opponents’ training sessions throughout the season, after a spy was expelled from the club’s Derby Country headquarters, a few days before the match.

After the match which ended in a 0-2 Derby defeat at Elland Road, EFL then conducted an investigation into the incident, which by the Derby coach, Frank Lampard was described as unethical.

“The (Leeds) club was fined 200,000 pounds and received a formal letter of warning and a warning that states the club has done things that are not in accordance with EFL standards and to not repeat the act,” said the EFL statement.

“In addition, Leeds United also agreed to support the new EFL Regulation that clubs are prohibited from watching opponent’s training within 72 hours before the match.”

Leeds, who were former Premier League leaders and won the FA Cup and League Cup titles, have apologized to the Derby club.
