DBasia.news – Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric was unable to hide his disappointment. Unexpectedly, Los Blancos were defeated by Shakhtar Donetsk in the inaugural match of Group B in the Champions League.
Unmitigated, Madrid’s defeat happened at home. Playing at Estadio Alfredo Stefano, El Real gave up 2-3 in the duel that ended on Thursday (22/10) in the morning WIB.
“This is a defeat that is difficult to accept, but we have to keep going,” Modric said as quoted on the official UEFA website.
He denied that there were parties who said Los Blancos were taking Shakhtar lightly. Modric stressed that they had great respect for the Ukrainian champions.
He admitted his team did not start the match well. In the first half, Zinedine Zidane’s squad trailed 0-3 through Shakhtar’s quick counterattack.
“When they scored the first goal, we kept our heads down,” he added.
After the break, Madrid were more aggressive in applying pressure. The midfielder feels his camp is making positive changes.
But that was not enough to drive up a goal deficit. “We looked a little better after the break. But overall, we are not happy with the performance this time,” concluded Modric.
El Real manager, Zinedine Zidane admitted his side entered a bad moment. However, he still sees the positive side displayed by his foster children.
According to Zidane, Modric et al went crazy in the second half. Although in the end, they could not avoid disappointment.
“The players are upset. Naturally, they are champions. My job is to find a solution, because a game like this can’t happen again,” said Zidane.
Zidane must immediately find an instant solution. This is because Madrid have suffered two successive defeats after being silenced by the promotion team Cadiz with a score of 0-1. Moreover, Los Blancos must undergo an el Clasico duel against Barcelona this weekend in La Liga.
