Manchester United are sharp but sloppy in defense
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Manchester United were only able to draw 3-3 when they hosted Everton in the 2020-2021 Premier League at Old Trafford, Sunday (7/2). The course of the match described the Red Devils’ performance this season.
Manchester United closed the first half with two goals without reply. Edinson Cavani and Bruno Fernandes listed their names on the scoreboard.
The situation turned 180 degrees at the start of the second half. Everton, who played more aggressively, were able to score two goals within three minutes through the actions of Abdoulaye Doucoure and James Rodriguez.
These two goals could have been prevented had Manchester United’s defense appeared more disciplined. But it was too late.
Luckily, this condition did not make Manchester United panic. Scott McTominay returned the hosts’ lead in the 70th minute.
Manchester United seemed to be winning the match as they controlled the game until normal time ended. Unfortunately, disaster came during injury time when Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s cheat made it 3-3.
This result is certainly detrimental to Manchester United for failing to cut the distance with Manchester City at the top of the standings. Their chances of winning the title are running low.
“We deserved to win the game, but that’s football. You have to take your chances and not concede with every shot,” Solskjaer told the BBC afterwards.
The match against Everton is indeed an irony for Manchester United. This match confirmed their sharp condition up front but fragile at the back.
Manchester United are now in the status of being the most fertile team in the Premier League. They have scored 49 goals in 23 matches.
No other club has matched the productivity of Manchester United. Unfortunately, this was not matched by a solid defensive performance.
Apart from having the status of the most productive team, Manchester United is also the team with the most conceded goals among the top 10 residents. They have conceded 30 times so far.
The effect of his careless defense was pronounced in the match against Everton. This can also have a bad impact at the end of the season if the top of the standings must be determined by the difference in goals like in the 2011-2012 season.
“We have to focus on improving as a team. We scored more goals, created chances and you feel like you dominated the game and should win it,” he concluded.
