Manchester United Legend Believes Mourinho Understands the Team’s History

There was a big concern when the club high-officials appointed Jose Mourinho as Man United coach in 2016. No wonder, Mourinho is known as the coach who prioritizes the experienced player instead of the young one, especially from the academy.

Luckily, the concern isn’t happening, because, in fact, Mourinho continues the tradition by trusting Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, and Andreas Pereira to play. He also orbits Scott McTominay, Angel Gomes, Axel Tuanzebe, and Joel Pereira to the main squad.

“He does get the history. For the manager to put him (Rashford) in and play him… and Scott (McTominay) last year… and give them games, big games as well,” Man United legend who is the current Mourinho’s assistant, Michael Carrick, explained.

“The manager has to take a lot of credit for that. That’s the constant challenge though, isn’t it? That’s what everyone wants to see, that next one. They say it’s getting harder.”

“But that’s a challenge for us as a club and for English football – you might not get tens and twenties, you might get five or six players – but it’s got to keep happening,” Carrick explained.

Red Devils never have the squad without academy player since 1937. The preserved tradition should be appreciated, considering the talented foreign players coming to the Premier League.

“At the end of the day, the academies are there to produce players and to give kids a chance of getting in first teams. Especially at United; you can’t ignore the history and traditions,” Carrick insisted.
