DBasia.news – Manchester United have confirmed the departure of Ander Herrera at the end of this season. Herrera is one of the senior midfielders and the best owned by United.
“There is a red heart (Man United) in my heart. I knew it from the first time I played here (Man United) and at the moment I started wearing it,” Herrera said.
“A club with thousands of fans who appreciate and remember all the players who gave everything. I feel special when I listen to my name being sung,” stressed the former Athletic Club Bilbao player.
“I feel proud when fans decide that I am a part of history that is very extraordinary. Every time I represent this club in every match, in winning and losing , even when I don’t help to play, I understand what this club means.”
According to circulating reports, Manchester United was unwilling to fulfill the salary request submitted by Herrera. As a result, the player will leave on a free transfer. Reportedly, Herrera will head to Paris Saint-Germain.
“I will remember each of the nearly 200 matches I have played with this jersey, because playing for the greatest club in England is a true honor. Thank you for these five great years,” Herrera said.
During his defense of the Red Devils, Herrera has won a number of titles such as the FA Cup, the English League Cup to the Europa League. The record proves Herrera has a vital role for Manchester United.
Herrera’s departure from Manchester United received a negative response from a number of parties. The Red Devils are judged to have made the wrong decision not to extend Herrera’s contract.
Here are three reasons why Manchester United made a mistake in not renewing Ander Herrera’s contract:
1. Substitutes Will Be Expensive
To face next season, Manchester United are expected to look for players who are the same type as Ander Herrera. However, it is not an easy matter to get a replacement for Herrera in the summer transfer market.
Indeed, Manchester United has a potential young player namely, Scot McTominay, who has a role similar to Herrera. However, the Scottish midfielder is predicted not to be able to perform consistently throughout the season. McTominay still needs time to perform well.
According to the circulating news, Manchester United are snooping on the Portuguese midfielder, Bruno Fernandes. However, the Red Devils has got competition from Manchester City.
Sporting CP is believed not to release Bruno Fernandes under the price of 50 million euros. This amount is considered too high for players who fail to shine in the big league (Serie A).
2. Ander Herrera is One of the Best Midfielders
Last season, Herrera struggled to show the best performance under the care of Jose Mourinho. However, after Solskjaer took over, everything changed.
Herrera is one of the reasons Paul Pogba can freely build the attack on Manchester United. The midfielder was the first person to take charge of the ball when the Red Devils lost the ball.
Herrera scored the first goal when coached by Solskjaer against Cardiff City. In the next match, the midfielder created two assists. In addition, Herrera also scored one of two goals from Manchester United’s victory over Chelsea.
Interestingly, the last four defeats suffered by Manchester United all happened when Herrera did not play. On the basis of the records, only Luke Shaw had a tackle better than Herrera.
3. Manchester United Will Lose its Leader
Ander Herrera has become the axis of the game for Manchester United. The Spanish player has a calm attitude on the field and can take great responsibility, something rare for Man United players.
Being a leader does not mean just shouting and directing the team during a match. It’s more than that, a leader must also inspire and bring the team forward.
Herrera is a motivator for other players. The midfielder can also be a mentor for the Red Devils young players.
