DBasia.news –  Marco Reus was able to show his best performance with Borussia Dortmund, especially he was free from injury. Reus’ consistent performance ended with his success winning the 2019 German Player of the Year award.

Quoted from the official Bundesliga website, Reus defeated two compatriots, Kai Havertz and Joshua Kimmich, with 158 votes from a total of 540 votes entered. Havertz received 121 votes and Kimmich 35 votes.

The vote was carried out by German sports journalists and the award was given by popular German magazine, Kicker. Last season, Reus scored 17 goals and gave eight assists from 27 times in the Bundesliga.

“It’s more fun than the last time I won it (in 2012), a different feeling from seven years ago. It’s hard for me to come back from a severe injury like I did in 2017 and become the Best Player,” Reus said.

“This really makes me proud. It’s an introduction to my performance over the past two years,” continued the former Borussia Monchengladbach player.

Reus last won it in 2012. Reus was chosen as the Best Player of Germany after being previously won by Real Madrid midfielder, Toni Kroos. In addition, Reus became the fourth Dortmund player to succeed in reaching it after Hans Tilkowski (1965), Matthias Sammer (1995 and 1996), and Jurgen Kohler (1997).

“This is a special and fun award for the work and effort that you have given to be recognized. Of course, I couldn’t have achieved it without the help of my team mates and the team behind the team, so thank you very much too,” Reus added.
