Mauricio Pochettino’s Mediocre Mentality Not Suitable For Manchester United

DBasia.news –  Mauricio Pochettino’s recent remark has sparked a controversy among Europe’s fottball lovers. Tottenham Hotspur manager rates that he is pleased with only being in the Premier League top four or The Champions League zone. His remark indicated the mentality he has.

After five years of developing Spurs as the black horse, then the Premier League title fighter, and consistently playing in the Champions League, Pochettino should have proclaimed a higher target: reaching the trophy.

Of course, his remarks offended some players in the squad who fought to achieve the trophy, not only getting into the top four and playing in the Champions League. Observe Erik Lamela’s remark.

“No, we couldn’t care less (about the trophy). We care about every competition and every match. We want to win every match we play,” says Lamela, quoted from Standard Sports.

According to Pochettino, reaching for the trophy builds the teams egos. This remark was also responded by Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes, who at the moment is observing England’s football.

Associating Pochettino’s comment with rumors of departing from coaching Man United, Scholes rates the Argentinian Manager’s reasoning does not match with The Red Devil’s Calibre, that targets on achieveing every trophy in every season.

“He (Pochettino) won’t be able to express it (in United). While with United, he’s required to reach everything (trophies). Being in the Champions ELague, the top four, will not be enough,” says Scholes in the Manchester Evening News.

“The only reason it would be good enough for this season is because the way the team performs effects the first part of the season. Winning the FA Cup wil be a good thing for United, a great accomplishment for Ole if he can manage it, but if Pochettino comes next season, then he needs to try and win everything,” he added.

Though critiqued, Pochettino’s remark is understandable, remembering that he has coached Spurs who’s financial conditions aren’t as fortunate as other top Premier League clubs.

Even more so now, a lot of their wealth is being located to the development of the new White Hart Lane stadium. So, gaining big income from participating in the Champions League is more than enough for the Lilywhites.
