Modric Sarcasm to British Media After Croatia Victory

DBasia.news – England was finally “coming home” after the loss 1-2 by the injury team with Croatia, Thursday (12/7). Croatia went to the final round of 2018 World Cup to meet France.

For Croatia, this is the first time ever in history they perform in the final round of WOrld Cup. It was a spectacular history for an underdog team.

Related to that status, Croatian star, Luka Modric that was the motivation. That’s why after the match, Modric satirized British media who underestimated Croatia.

Before the semifinal round, British media were supporting Gareth Southgate team. Basically, this wasn’t a big deal related to their hometown. Moreover, Croatia was running out of fuel after two matches until the penalty shootout during the knockout phase.

But for Modric, British media were underestimating Croatia. He said British media should be more humble and respect Croatia along the match.

“We proved everything differently that people were talking. Especially English journalists, pundits from television, they underestimated Croatia tonight and that was a huge mistake,” said Modric to ITV, reported by SkySports.

“All these words from them we take, we were reading and we were saying ‘OK, today we will see who will be tired.”

“As I said, they should be more humble, and respect opponents more. That’s it,” said the Real Madrid player.

The same thing told by Croatia defender, Sime Vrsaljko. He said the perception that Southgate team was changing the style was incorrect.

“The all-around perception was that this is a new-look England who have changed their ways of punting long balls upfield but when we pressed them it turned out that they haven’t,” said Vrsaljko.
