Mourinho’s Response About Luke Shaw Contract Renewal

DBasia.news – Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho gave his response regarding the contract renewal of his left-back, Luke Shaw. He gets a contract renewal until June 2023.

The new contract is the reward of his performance revival this season. Shaw’s performance renaissance could be seen from his consistency playing as the left-back and full trust from Jose Mourinho, the same person who criticized him two seasons ago.

Thanks to his impressive performance this season, Shaw was called by Gareth Southgate to England national team for two times. Shaw isn’t only discipline in guarding United’s left defense, but also explosive while building the attack.

For the first time since left by Patrice Evra four years ago, the fans could see another reliable left-back. Hence, it’s not only Ashley Young who becomes the midfielder or left-wing striker.

“Luke fully deserves this contract. He understood his development process, he has worked really hard at every level and he always believes in himself which is a great attribute to have,” Mourinho said in United’s official website.

“Luke is still young and is improving all the time and he must feel very proud of himself. I am delighted that we are keeping such a talented young English player with a bright future ahead of him,” The Special One continued.

In contrary with the previous seasons, Mourinho often gives the compliment to Shaw this season. This is the third time he told the compliment since the first time after Man United’s 2-1 victory against Leicester City in the Premier League opening match.

Shaw scored his first goal in the senior career and in Mourinho’s statistic, he just did one mistake during the match at Old Trafford.

“I am very pleased for Luke Shaw – not just with that [the goal] but he made one mistake in 90 minutes. He was very good defensively, he was good with the ball, he coped physically well and he had a good pre-season,” Mourinho added.

The fans’ expectation to see Shaw playing on the left side and Diago Dalot in the right side could come true. Both are United’s future players for the left and right back position.
