DBasia.news – DC United Striker and Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney is rumored returning from his retirement in England national team to support The Three Lions in the friendly match against the US at Wembley on November 15. British football figures responded diversely.

Not merely a friendly match, the profit of that match would be donated to charity foundation of Rooney. If he performs in that match, he will score 120 caps in total.

Without that match, the 33-year-old player has written his name in British football history as the second British player with the most caps after Peter Shilton. Also, he is the top-scorer of all time with 53 goals. So, Rooney’s return is awaited by British fans.

Many think this comeback is chosen to farewell better with the proper gesture between Rooney and fans. Previously, Rooney decided to retire from England national team last season. He refused Gareth Southgate’s call-up.

But, not everyone accepted Rooney’s return. One of them is another British legend, Peter Shilton.

“I was shocked when I read it and I’m still struggling to understand the decision. It’s been two years since Wayne last played, England are on a new threshold and have just had a great World Cup but are going backward with this,” Shilton told Mirror.

“That’s not to say that Wayne does not deserve a tribute but give him a presentation, don’t just give caps away which is wrong and also denies a young player a chance as well. I don’t agree with it at all,” Shilton stated.

Shilton’s comment is perhaps exaggerated. In fact, Rooney just played in one match, the friendly match, not the competition match like the UEFA Nations League.

Instead, the young players could learn from the DC United player who got the chance to be England national team captain for 23 times.
