Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: Manchester United winning the Europa League has become the biggest achievement in my career

DBasia.news – Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said winning the Europa League this season would be the biggest achievement in his career as a coach.

The Red Devils will face FC Copenhagen in the one-leg quarter-final phase in Cologne, and will clash with the winners between Wolves and Sevilla if they progress to the semi-finals.

If further predicted, it will be an ideal final against Inter Milan, an interesting clash considering the Nerazzurri are currently strengthened by three former United, namely Alexis Sanchez, Ashley Young and Romelu Lukaku.

Solskjaer himself is a legendary figure when he was active as a player by successfully winning six Premier League trophies, two FA Cups and one Champions League. The Norwegian coach is best remembered for scoring the goal against Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final to claim the treble winners.

However, despite the various titles he won during his time as a player, Solskjaer stated that being able to lift the trophy as a coach feels more prestigious than as a player.

“I am ambitious and one of my dreams is to lift a trophy as a manager for this club,” said the 47-year-old coach.

“I owe this club a debt of gratitude, so winning as a manager will feel like the proudest moment in my football career. It will be the biggest achievement,” he continued.

“As a player I am part of a fantastic team and sometimes, you just ride the waves. Roy Keane might say, his back hurts because he carried me and maybe he is right!” added Ole.

“I contribute as much as I can. I’m always ready. Lifting the trophy now will be the best moment in my career,” he stated.

Solskjaer led United to finish third in the 2019/20 Premier League final standings, which means they are entitled to claim a place in the Champions League next season.

The manager hopes that winning the trophy in this season’s campaign can be a stepping stone to achieve other big things in the 2020/21 period.

“Winning trophies makes you think ‘I want more than this’,” he added.

“It also means there will be more dedication, more focus, because it makes you think ‘This is what I want.’ Some players may be complacent once they win something, but we see that what we are working on at the moment is paying off,” he said.

“Everything is in their hands. They know they are at Manchester United and know we have the resources to build,” he explained.

“We made plans together as a club 18 months ago when I sat with Ed Woodward and quick fixes were not possible. We want to build. We were in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup and FA Cup. The next step is to go through it.”

“It will be a step forward for this team,” he concluded.
