Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Never Thought of Replacing David De Gea

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed he had never thought of replacing David de Gea even though he often made mistakes this season. In fact, he actually supported the Spanish goalkeeper to maintain his place in the next few years.

David de Gea surpassed Peter Schmeichel’s record as an overseas player with the most appearances for Manchester United after inciting 400 matches.

However, the slick records did not erase the fact that David de Gea has received so much criticism this season. Since last season, De Gea has made several blunders which has made his position as Man United’s main goalkeeper questioned.

Supporters had urged Manchester United to dismiss De Gea and replace him with Dean Henderson who performed brilliantly at Sheffield United. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has another view.

“It certainly did not cross my mind for a second to kick him out. To become a Manchester United goalkeeper you must have a strong mentality,” said Solskjaer as reported by Goal.

“David de Gea has a strong mentality and he has been here for so long that he will reach 400 matches. You would not do so when you are afraid of the spotlight or Old Trafford.”

“You do it by walking into the field. It shows them that you have quality and mentality. He is a strong character and I don’t see the point in taking him off the pitch,” the manager added.

David de Gea was linked with Real Madrid when he didn’t sign a new contract. At present, the 29-year-old goalkeeper is under contract until June 2023.
