DBasia.news – Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ,admitted that his team still had a lot to improve after Barcelona’s humiliation with the worst aggregate goals in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Losing 0-1 from the first leg at Old Trafford, the Red Devils were helpless in the second leg which took place at Camp Nou, Wednesday (17/4) WIB, and lost 0-3 through two goals from Lionel Messi and Philippe Coutinho. In total, United lost the aggregate 0-4.
Media in Europe, especially in England, agreed to consider United’s class was far from other top European clubs. Even so according to Solskjaer. United Legend in mid-1996-2007 saw a big task to rebuild the glory of the club to keep up with other top European teams.
“We are working on it and we have spoke to the players about how we can best produce our abilities, creating a top-class, world-class character environment every day,” said Solskjaer, quoted by the Guardian.
“We have good players and we really did well in the quarter-finals and challenged the big four (in the Premier League). But, we have a job to rebuild (the glory of United).”
“We know there is work to be done. I continue to say that this will not change overnight and the next few years will be a big thing to reach the level of Barcelona and other teams,” explained the Norwegian coach.
One of the distinguishing factors of Barca in the match against Man United was La Pulga. Merciless Messi converted the opportunity to a goal when utilizing Ashley Young’s blunder, then in the second goal was created because of a big blunder ala Loris Karius by David De Gea.
“We looked spectacular, we have shown the ability of the team. In the first five minutes we were tense, but we played great football. My first goal was created strongly and the second goal was lucky,” said Messi after the match.
“Treble? No, no, little by little, we should not relax. Now, we have to think of a way to end (title) LaLiga and then, we will play the Champions League semifinals.”
Solskjaer also did not forget to praise the great role of the Barelona superstar. Each time touching the ball, Messi always presents a big threat to United’s defense which was mobilized by Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.
“He (Messi) is an amazing talent. He and Cristiano (Ronaldo) have been the best players in the world for the past decade. He showed tonight why we think about it and why this team has won so many Champions League titles,” Solskjaer added.
“Whenever he receives a ball around the penalty box area he will be very decisive and unfortunately for us, he differentiates the final result of the match,” he explained.
Now, Man United’s focus is on the finish target in the top four of the Premier League to continue to play in the Champions League next season. United are now two points adrift of Arsenal who is ranked fourth in the standings and Arsenal have one match postponed.
In the next three matches in the Premier League, Man United will play Everton (21/4), Manchester City (25/4) and Chelsea (28/4). The first match is held at Goodison Park and the last two games is played at Old Trafford.
