DBasia.news –  AC Milan’s defeat from Liverpool in the 2004-05 Champions League final which took place in Istanbul, Turkey, is still well remembered by Milan legend Paolo Maldini. Until now he had no idea about the defeat suffered by his team.

The 2004-2005 Champions League Final is one of the most legendary for soccer fans. AC Milan’s counter-Liverpool duel was touted as a legendary party.

Not without reason, AC Milan won 3-0 over Liverpool in the first round. However, after the halftime, the Reds equalized and finally came out as champions on penalties.

The result, AC Milan had to swallow a bitter pill. Paolo Maldini and his friends returned empty-handed from Istanbul while Liverpool partied.

Nearly 14 years after the incident, apparently, Paolo Maldini is still thinking about it. Maldini considers the defeat in the Champions League final to be the most painful.

“I lost the World Cup final and European Cup in the final minute. So, I had some disappointments. I also lost three times in the Champions League final,” recalled Paolo Maldini.

“However, the defeat of Liverpool in Istanbul is the most severe. That is because I consider the final to be the last before retiring.”

“Moreover, I scored. I thought it would be a sweet closing for me. Apparently, destiny still gave me another opportunity,” added Paolo Maldini.

Paolo Maldini is a graduate of AC Milan’s football academy. Maldini’s father also defended Il Diavolo Rosso, while his children were studying at the Primavera team.
