Paul Parker Believes Manchester United Needs 6 New Players

DBasia.news –  Paul Parker, former Manchester United player, consideres his former club needed six new players to be recruited next summer. One of the players to be replaced is Ashley Young.

In the last two games against Barcelona in the first leg and two Champions League quarter-finals, Young became United’s most visible weak spot.

Placed as right-back in the first leg, the 33-year-old 33 times lost possession and did not succeed in releasing a cross that was right on target. Even so in the second leg.

It increasingly clearly shows that it was a big mistake to play the wing attacker as a full-back (left back or right). Parker advised Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to add players in that position or at the very least, to play players who were rightly positioned as left-right defenders.

“United have not had a good right back since Gary Neville retired, and I always say that the club has a problem when they put veteran wing attackers as a full-back. It won’t cover the gap and not show intentions about what you want to achieve, “Parker told Eurosport.

“Ashley Young’s play in that role didn’t help at all. A lot of thought seeing him wasn’t good enough to play in that position – and it came at the worst time as United played very badly.”

“It’s easy to blame one individual for knowing his weaknesses. United have two right-backs – Matteo Darmian and Diogo Dalot – they should have believed both of them to play in that position and said ‘Well, you play right-back and prove that you are a good right-back.”

In addition to the position of right-left defender, Parker believes United needed three additional defenders, two central midfielders and one striker.

“I think you should purchase, maybe, three defenders, two midfielders and maybe a center forward. You will put Marcus Rashford in it, but Solskjaer needs more,” Parker added.

Out of the Champions League, Man United now only have one target left to achieve, namely finishing in the Champions League zone or the top four of the Premier League.
