DBasia.news – Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, hopes that the rival for the Premier League title, Liverpool, will lose points in the remaining matches. Including the closest match against West Ham United.
Manchester City cut the distance to two points from Liverpool after beating Arsenal 3-1 in the Week 25 of the 2018-2019 Premier League match, at Etihad Stadium on Sunday (4/2). Now, the pressure is located to the Reds that will compete on Monday (4/2).
Pep Guardiola did not deny wanting to see Liverpool go down. However, the Spanish manager chose to prepare his team against Everton in the next match.
“The most important thing is to be ourselves. We don’t recognize ourselves at Newcastle. I think the players understand that. Today we have returned,” Guardiola said as reported by the club’s official website.
“What we need to do now is to try to show why we’re called a good team. Against Newcastle we scored, but then we didn’t do it again. We didn’t fight for it and didn’t try to score the second goal.”
“I could not do anything at the match. So, unfortunately we did not get a holiday for one week. Now, we are preparing to travel to Goodison Park.”
Indeed, when Manchester City lost to Newcastle, Liverpool could have a seven-point lead. However, The Reds actually played 1-1 against Leicester City.
“I can’t deny hoping West Ham United to beat Liverpool, but the Reds will also be more happy if Arsenal beat us. That is normal. However, I am not affected by that, all we can do is win the next match,” said Guardiola.
