Rio Ferdinand Advises Phil Foden to leave Manchester City

DBasia.news –  The 18-year-old England midfielder, Phil Foden, has difficulty competing with the top names in the current Manchester City squad.

Success brought the U-17 England national team to win the U-17 World Cup in 2017, as well as being runner-up to Euro U-17 in the same year, Foden was only used by Pep Guardiola as the current coating player in the squad for The Citizens.

That condition made Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand concerned. The man who is currently an observer of English football, considers that Foden is better off imitating the footsteps of Jadon Sancho or Brahim Diaz who left for another club for more playing time.

“He (Foden) has great potential, but in the end he needs time to play. He won’t get it at Manchester City. Jadon Sancho doesn’t, that’s why he left,” said Ferdinand, reported Goal.

“He wanted regular football and decided to go to Borussia Dortmund. Honestly, he proved the truth of that decision – he is now a player worth 100 million pounds,” he continued.

According to Ferdinand, Foden will think of the possibility to leave to another club if the situation does not change at Man City. Especially at this time, Foden had difficulty competing with big names in the squad.

“If there are injuries in the midfield and they have a big game, I don’t see him being a player who will enter and fill in the blanks. For example, if David Silva is absent, then (Ilkay) Gundoga plays there or Bernardo Silva,” added Ferdinand.

“No doubt Foden will develop in training with a quality squad like that, but there will come a time when he thinks of himself, I want to play in the main team.”

“Every footballer has a competitive spirit in themselves and wants to be one of the names in the list of players – Foden is no different. I hope he gets that opportunity at Manchester City, because it would be great for English football, but the situation must change,” explained Ferdinand.
