DBasia.news – There is a role that is rarely known to the public from Steve Bruce and Mike Phelan, two former Manchester United players, in the development of Harry Maguire’s career. The Reds new defender did not forget the services of both.
Mike Phelan and Steve Bruce became the mainstay of Manchester United in the back sector in the 90s. Now, Phelan serves as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s assistant at Man United, while Steve Bruce trains Newcastle United.
The 26-year-old player revealed that Mike Phelan was the one who gave him a chance to show off at Hull City. In addition, he absorbed much of the defensive knowledge from Mike Phelan.
“He always gives me lots of tips and hints from great players who have worked with him in the past,” Maguire said as reported by the United App.
“He is the man who led Hull City and allowed me to appear regularly in the Premier League. So, I owe him a lot. I am very happy to be working with him again. He is a great coach,” said the player.
Besides Phelan, Steve Bruce also contributed to Maguire’s career. The manager is the person who brought Maguire from Sheffield United to Hull City in 2014.
“I was very lucky in the past to be able to work with a coach who is a central defender. I gained experience,” said Maguire.
“Steve Bruce is amazing with me. Hull City is the club that I want to thank the most after what they gave. I have a special future there and Bruce and Phelan are former Man United players. I learned a lot from him,” Maguire reviewed.
Until now, there is no certainty that Harry Maguire will perform when Manchester United faces the inaugural Premier League match 2019-2020 against Chelsea, at Old Trafford stadium on Sunday (11/8).
