Ronaldo to Juventus, La Liga’s Fame Is Declining

A great history in Madrid’s golden moment within last season was closely related to Ronaldo. No wonder, his transfer to Juventus will raise the fame and reputation of Serie A, even exceeding La Liga.

But Javier Tebas, the President of La Liga, ensured that Ronaldo’s transfer wouldn’t give any change to La Liga fame. He insisted La Liga’s reputation is much bigger than the five-times Ballon d’Or winner.

“We are working so that such a movement is not so important. If before I had worried 9/10, now it worries me 4/10. It isn’t the same anymore and we have done a lot of work so that we don’t depend on the transfer market (to maintain La Liga’s reputation),” Tebas explained to Marca.

“In LaLiga we are bigger than the name of the players, just as Real Madrid are bigger than Cristiano Ronaldo’s brand,” he emphasized.

Tebas also gave an example of Premier League’s success, as the top league of the world though there is no superstar like Ronaldo or Messi.

“The Premier League is always the best selling and it doesn’t have the best players or the best clubs. The TV rights market doesn’t work like that. No country has told me that it would lower its offer without Cristiano or without (Lionel) Messi. They buy the competition,” Tebas concluded.
