DBasia.news – Manuel Neuer has been the number one goalkeeper for the German national team for years. Although his performance was declining in the last two seasons, Neuer remained involved when Germany won the 2014 World Cup.
The injury suffered by Neuer in the 2017/18 season made him experienced a significant decline in performance, which was evident at Russia’s 2018 World Cup when Germany as the defending champions was eliminated in the group phase due to two defeats from the three matches they played.
At present Die Mannschaft has several other high-quality goalkeepers such as Marc-Andre ter Stegen (Barcelona) and Bernd Leno (Arsenal). This situation made Ter Stegen feel that he deserved to be the first choice in Joachim Low’s squad.
“Of course I always have expectations to be lowered in matches with the German national team. Now I have a target to continue to grow so that it can become the main choice at the national level. I feel disappointed because there is currently no change in terms of players who are the first choice as a goalkeeper, “Ter Stegen said in an interview quoted from Sport.
The former Borussia Monchengladbach player admitted that he always tried to learn from his mistakes to improve his abilities in the future, and felt that mistakes were something that could happen to any soccer player, especially for a goalkeeper.
