UEFA Nations League Isn’t the Main Target for Italy

DBasia.news – Italy’s position in the League 1 of UEFA Nations League is threatened to drop to the League 2. Just played draw against Poland and defeated by Portugal made Gli Azzurri finished as the last in Group 3.
Italy coach Roberto Mancini did an experiment when playing against Portugal by sending 10 players as the starter in the match against Poland. Even some players didn’t have the chance to play in the international level.
Mancini seems to have an experiment in the remaining match of League 1 Nations League. He assumed by doing it, the young players will get the chance.
Consequently, Italy must face the risk of being degraded to the League 2. Mancini emphasized the UEFA Nations League isn’t his main target. The main target of Italy is to have a competitive squad in the Euro 2020.

“Obviously we don’t want to be relegated from League A, we want to finish first. You never know in football, so we’ll see what happens. Our main goal is to make the European Championship in 2020,” Mancini said.
Before starting his journey in the Nations League, the former Zenit St Petersburg complained about the lack experience of the young players in the club level. Hence he wanted to use the Nations League matches to add more experience for the players.
“We don’t like losing, and it is bad to lose, but it is also true that we have to take risks and get experience in games like these, otherwise it is hard to move forward quickly.”
“We might come under more pressure, but that means nothing if you don’t try (to win). We knew there were problems in this squad because otherwise, Italy would’ve qualified for the 2018 World Cup. There were some debutants in these games and they did some positive things,” Mancini revealed.
