Van der Vaart: Harry Maguire’s Game is Amateurish
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Former Tottenham Hotspur player, Rafael Van der Vaart, insinuated the game of Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire, was amateurish.
“When I watched an amateur match on Sunday, I found three players playing like Maguire. I am serious. Sounds silly, but he won’t hear it. After all, we are talking about an 80 million pounds transfers here. Then maybe Virgil van Dijk is actually 300 million euros, “Van der Vaart told Ziggo Sport.
Maguire moved from Leicester City to United at a price of 80 million pounds, equivalent to Rp 1.3 trillion in the transfer market last summer.
With that value, Maguire now holds the title of the most expensive defender in the world, beating Virgil van Dijk’s record. Liverpool brought him in from Southampton for 75 million pounds in January 2018.
According to Van der Vaart, Maguire’s value was too expensive. Moreover, the defender also only helped United win two clean sheets in nine Premier League matches this season.
“It’s funny because during the Nations League, I did work for Dutch television. And I remember we said ‘Harry Maguire is by far the worst player on the field’. And then, two months later, the transfer reached 80 million pounds, “said Van der Vaart.
United itself is now in 13th position of the English League standings. The Red Devils only collected 10 points from nine matches passed.
