Basia.news – Wayne Rooney, legend and former Manchester United striker, assessed the problems experienced by the Red Devils could not be completed by only thinking of short-term solutions. The solution is for example like recruiting Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.
Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, Man United no longer won the Premier League title and trained four different managers. In the 2018-19 season, United ended the season in sixth place and held two consecutive seasons.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United’s manager, handled the club after replacing Jose Mourinho last December. Despite having gone through a negative period towards the end of last season, Rooney was convinced Solskjaer could raise United if allowed to do so.
“The club must build a squad with younger players, but they must be good enough and I think fans understand they might not compete for the Premier League title next season,” Rooney told BBC Sport.
“Give Ole time to build a team for the next two to three years so they can compete in the Premier League and Champions League level.”
“It depends on teams like United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham (Hotspur), and maybe Everton in the next two years to reach Liverpool and Manchester City levels,” he concluded.
Rooney, 33, also advised Solskjaer to prioritize building a squad by recruiting talented young players and could be a long-term investment.
Recruiting experienced, mature, qualified, and often won trophies such as Ronaldo, Messi, or Sergio Ramos, according to Rooney, will not solve United’s problem because it will only be a short-term solution.
“The first thing Ole has to do is to build a squad and think that bringing in one or two 100 million pounds will not help existing players (in the squad),” added Rooney.
“It’s better to spend £ 30-40 million on players with potential and build a squad in around five or six players.”
“You can buy players like (Cristiano) Ronaldo, (Lionel) Messi, (Sergio) Ramos, or (Gareth) Bale, but that will make you spend 350 million pounds and you only get two years from them, then the money paid off.”
Man United, through their official website, managed to recruit Daniel James (21 years) from Swansea City for 18 million pounds. After bringing in James, United reportedly made a bid to recruit Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace.
