Wijnaldum and Van Dijk complained about Dinamo Stadium Field Conditions

DBasia.news –  Two Dutch pillar players, Georginio Wijnaldum and Virgil van Dijk complained about the surface conditions of the Dinamo Stadium field, Minsk.

The Oranje won 2-1 over Belarus, thanks to Wijnaldum’s two goals before Estonia narrowed the gap in the Group C match of the 2020 European Cup qualifiers.

“It was a difficult night for us. It is not easy to play on a field like that,” Wijnaldum said as quoted by the official UEFA website.

“We were complacent in the second half, and our positioning was not good. We often lost control of the ball,” he added.

Complaints about the field were also conveyed by Dutch captain Van Dijk.

“It’s really busy to dismantle piles of opposing defenders because they are very compact. This is also not a good field,” said Wijnaldum.

Dutch coach Ronald Koeman admitted he initially wanted to include several young players when his team led two goals, but he later changed his mind.

“When his position was 2-0 I thought of putting in several players who normally rarely get the chance to play. I certainly didn’t think of playing (Marten) De Roon. But after conceding, I realized we needed him. The same thing happened to Luuk (de Jong),” said Koeman.

This victory makes the Netherlands topped the group standings with a collection of 15 points. The number of Dutch points is the same as that of the second-ranked German team

The Netherlands will next travel to Northern Ireland on November 16. Then on November 19, they will host Estonia.
