DBasia.news – Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp praised his midfielders after the 3-2 defeat in the first matchday of Group C in 2018-2019 Champions League at Anfield Stadium, Tuesday (18/9).
Daniel Sturridge (30′), James Milner (36′), and Roberto Firmino (90+1′) scored three goals for Liverpool. Meanwhile, PSG countered with two goals from Thomas Meunier (40′) and Kylian Mbappe (83′).
Klopp, speaking after the match, assumed the key success of The Reds was the central line who countered the attack. The Germany manager owns his own reason why he sent the three midfielders strategy.
“It’s not only that we fight a lot and I love that but we played football as well, and that looked really confident. We look now much more tuned than it maybe was in the past,” Klopp said quoted by Soccerway.
“We played a midfield (Henderson, James Milner, and Georginio Wijnaldum) who played a lot of times last season together. That was the reason for that,” the manager emphasized.
One of the players playing excellent according to Klopp was Henderson. The England national team player scored 87,2 percent successful passings.
“It was clear that Hendo would come back and what a brilliant performance of him. Physical-wise, so good, because obviously as we know that the players after the World Cup normally struggle a bit,” Klopp added.
“He is ready now and that’s really important for us. We didn’t learn a lot which we didn’t know before, but it’s nice to see that we can do,” Klopp uttered.
With that result, Liverpool lead the standing with three points. The runner-up are Napoli who played 0-0 against Crvena Zvezda.
