Worst Tragedies in World Cup’s Semifinal

DBasia.news – 1982 World Cup was held in Spain. There were 24 teams got the ticket to the final round. But, there was one unforgettable match, almost killed one.
It was the match between West Germany versus France, during the semifinal round of 1982 World Cup in Roman Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium, Sevilla, July 8th. It was tight.
The tragedy initialized when the score was 1-1. Captain and also France national team’s star, Michel Platini, passed the ball to Patrick Battiston.
Battiston was ready to welcome Platini’s passing, but West Germany’s keeper, Toni Schumacher, came out from his nest. The collision was inevitable.
Schumacher lifted his hip and hit Battiston. Being hit, Battiston went unconscious.
Luckily, the medical team rescued him. He was brought outside the field with a collar brace. His tooth, rib, and backbone were broken. Battiston had a comma in the hospital. But he survived.
During that match, Schumacher didn’t get any card from the referee. The match continued. West Germany won the game by the penalty shootout in the 5-4 score, after drew score 303.
Another horror tragedy came from the 2014 World Cup. Brasil met Germany in the semifinal round. At that time, both of the teams were the favorite candidate to be the champion. But Brasil was predicted to win the match.
Playing without Thiago Silva, Brasil attractively sending the attack. Neymar tried to sneak and scored a goal.
Germany read Brasil’s strategy. Der Panzer possessed few times.
But things were going awry after 11′ when Germany dominated the match. In the end, 7 goals ended in Brasil’s net. Brasil just scored one goal.
The 7 goals of Germany were scored by Thomas Muller (11′), Miroslav Klose (23′), Toni Kroos (24′ dan 26′), Sami Khedira (29′), Andre Schurrle (69′ and 79′). While Brasil was scoring a goal by Oscar (90′).
German went to the final round to face Argentina. Der Panzer became the champion after defeating Argentina 1-0.
