DBasia.news – Champions League would apply the new regulation for the knockout stage that has been applied in some Europe top leagues. Sky Sports reported UEFA has granted the permission to use the VAR in the Champions League this season.

Actually, UEFA would use the VAR starting next season. But, the mistakes from referees in some Champions League matches triggered them to decide earlier than initially planned.

UEFA is a bit late in utilizing the VAR. Apparently, Europe top competition and 2018 World Cup have been using that technology.

UEFA are conducting the meeting with European Club Association (ECA). UEFA President Aleksandar Ceferin confirmed VAR would be used next season.

However, Aleksandar Ceferin promised to use the VAR in the Champions League. However, it would be decided in a few weeks.

“I expect the report in a week or so and then we will see when we can implement it – (at) the latest, next season,” Aleksandar Ceferin said.

Meanwhile, ECA President Andrea Agnelli revealed possibly VAR would be used this season, during the 16-stage of 2018-2019 Champions League.

“The latest next season also means there is space for earlier implementation and we are delighted as clubs for that and we thank UEFA for the work they’ve been putting together,” Andrea Agnelli said.

The Champions League might be the last top competition utilizing the VAR. Apparently, only Premier League that hasn’t adapted that technology.
