DBasia.news – Former Italy coach Antonio Conte has strong belief in Gli Azzurri’s progress at Euro 2020. Conte sees great togetherness in the current squad and believes Italy can go far.

Roberto Mancini’s Italy closed the group stage of Euro 2020 with a hat-trick of victories against Turkey (3-0), Switzerland (3-0), and Wales (1-0). Italy is unbeaten, scoring seven goals, and conceding no goals, aka clean sheets.

Italy is like proving the status of favorite European Cup champions they deserve. Italy has not won a major title since the 2006 World Cup, while the last European Cup was in 1968.

Conte, who coached Italy from mid 2014-2016, believes that Italy can now advance to the final and try to win the 2020 European Cup. The former Inter Milan coach sees a great desire from Giorgio Chiellini et al to succeed.

“The assessment of Italy is certainly positive,” Conte told Radio Anch’io Sport. “They had to get through the group and did it brilliantly.”

“There is unity, togetherness and great will. This is a good sign. For the rest, the other national teams are confirming themselves.”

“To be honest, I don’t see any surprise team that will win the European Cup. In the end, it will be one of the predicted national teams. Let’s hope it is Italy.”

In addition to discussing Italy, Conte also gave an assessment of the other big countries he saw at Euro 2020.

“I like France and Germany, they have experience and strong players. Belgium are an extraordinary team, they will be dangerous if they get (Kevin) De Bruyne and (Axel) Witsel back in top shape,” he concluded.
