Barcelona will not let go of Lionel Messi
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Barcelona will certainly continue to maintain Lionel Messi. This is because the new project in Ronald Koeman’s hands is in desperate need of the megastar from Argentina.
Koeman is certainly one step away from becoming the new Barcelona coach to replace Quique Setien. The Dutch coach has arrived in Barcelona since Tuesday (18/8/2020) to take care of finalizing his contract.
A two-year contract has been set up for Koeman and he will lead Barcelona’s new role, after a decline in this season. Barcelona not only failed to win a trophy, but also closed the season with a 2-8 defeat to Bayern Munich.
A series of bad results has made the team’s condition heated, which made Messi as the captain of the team not feel at home with Barca anymore. Messi has even asked management to let him go this summer.
However, the news was denied by Barcelona President, Josep Maria Bartomeu. He insisted that Messi was not going anywhere because Koeman’s Barcelona would still rely on Messi’s magic next season.
“I have spoken with Koeman and the main pillar of our project is Messi,” said Bartomeu, as quoted by Sportskeeda.
“He is still under contract until 2021. I have talked a lot with Leo, but more often with his father. He is the best player in the world. There is no doubt that Koeman’s new project will still rely on Messi,” he continued.
“Messi is disappointed, just like other players. We have to be optimistic. We are going to be down for a day or two, but now we have to get up.”
“We always think this system benefits Messi’s ability. We 100 percent have it. In this era there are many different cycles. Hopefully there will be new cycles that emerge, but it still starts with Lionel Messi,” concluded Bartomeu.
