UEFA Club Competition

DBasia.news – Not only a plan or issue from Football Leaks, but the third club competition would also be conducted in the 2021-2022 season.

UEFA confirmed the third tournament after the Champions League and Europa League.

In the past, UEFA had many Europe club competitions, including Winners Cup and Intertoto Cup for Europe clubs.

But now, there are only two competitions left, Champions League and Europa League.

The situation makes Europa League has too many participants. Currently, they are 48 clubs joining, and also 8 clubs in relegation from the Champions League.

Consequently, UEFA decided to make a new competition. Later, the Europa League would only for 32 teams.

Juventus and ECA President Andrea Agnelli confirmed this news. Agnelli said the competition is made up of 32 teams.

“The UEFA Executive Committee has today unanimously agreed to revamp its club competitions as from the 2021-22 season. Following demands by ECA Members to increase the overall number of clubs participating in UEFA’s Club Competitions, this brings the overall number of participants in UEFA Club Competitions (UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, new Competition) to 96 with 32 participating teams per competition.”

“The name and positioning of the new Competition will be developed by UEFA Club Competitions SA,” Andrea Agnelli continued.

So far, it’s unclear where it would be conducted, whether between the Champions League and Europa League or the lowest in Europe.
