DBasia.news – Racial issues are one of the big things that are being fought in European football today. Eden Hazard, the Chelsea wing striker, was most vocal in expressing his desire to fight to get rid of racism which tarnished soccer’s sportsmanship.
Eden Hazard attended Kick It Out’s 25th anniversary event. Kick It Out is an organization that aims to eradicate racism and other similar problems in football.
“That is a big problem, not only in England, but also everywhere. That is why we are talking about this tonight,” explained Eden Hazard.
Lately, there have been many acts of racism that occured on the green field. Chelsea have punished their fans for committing racism to Raheem Sterling.
“However, we can beat that if we talk to the media. We will try to replace this. It is challenging, but the more people speak, the greater the chance to solve the problem,” said Hazard.
Meanwhile, the former Chelsea defender and founder of Kick It Out, Paul Elliott, explained that football is now thicker with acts of racism than in the 1980s and 90s.
“When Kick It Out was formed in 1993, it was really about caring for black players about matches, the players of my generation. We only want basic human rights to work in a racism-free environment,” Elliott stressed.
“Out there is our workplace and it’s compromised in a very serious and disrespectful way. There are still wider challenges about race, but you have still anti-Semitism, homophobia, xenophobia, Islamophobia, they are 21st century challenges. “
“We have to attack it with the same strength, leadership and enthusiasm as it was done before.”
