DBasia.news – Just a few days the British received a sad news about the death of the legendary goalkeeper, Gordon Banks, now the sad news again came from Queen Elisabeth’s country. The ex-coach of the Manchester United youth team, Eric Harrison, died.
Reported by Dailymail, Harrison died at the age of 81 years after fighting dementia for four years. The sad news immediately made the legend of the Red Devils like Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Paul Scholes, and Gary Neville hit.
For them Harrison is not just an ordinary coach, but a father besides Sir Alex Ferguson, who teaches the meaning of life, how to play football, and the values needed to be a good professional footballer.
Neville, through his Twitter account @GNev2 , led the condolences to the man born on February 5, 1938. In his words, Neville’s sadness was evident over Harrison’s death.
“We lost our mentor, our coach, and the man who created (shaped) us. He taught us how to play, how to never give up, how important it was to win individual battles, and what we needed to play at Manchester United, Eric, we owe you everything,” said Neville.
Man United’s official Twitter @ManUtd also gave condolences to Harrison and the family he left behind.
“We were very sad to hear that the former coach of our young team, Eric Harrison, died last night. Our grief and prayers to Eric’s family and friends in this difficult time,” added @ManUtd.
The 1992 Man United is indeed famous throughout the world. Giggs, Scholes, Beckham, Neville, Nicky Butt, Phil Neville, are some of the products of the United academy at that time. Formed by Harrison and refined by Ferguson.
They all have a big contribution to carve history with a climax to win the treble of Premier League titles, FA Cup and Champions League in 1999. The generation is not necessarily there if Harrison is not the coach of United’s young team. So again, thank you Harrison.
