Failed Again in the Champions League, Allegri Never Retreat from Coaching Juventus

DBasia.news –  Juventus coach, Massimiliano Allegri, is still adamant about surviving next season as a club coach, although his team has failed to win the Champions League title after being defeated by Ajax Amsterdam in the quarter-finals.

Capitalizing on a 1-1 goal from the first leg in Johan Cruyff Arena, Juventus had the upper hand when Cristiano Ronaldo scored in the 28th minute. But Erik ten Hag’s ajax didn’t give up easily. Goals from Ronaldo actually made it difficult for Ajax.

Donny van de Beek and Matthijs de Ligt scored two goals to turn the situation and Ajax into the semifinals, for the first time since 1997, with a total aggregate goal of 3-2. The defeat was considered public as the end of Allegri’s trip with Juventus.

“Credit for Ajax, which has a young team and plays beautiful football with the way football should be played. It would be great if they continued to advance and win the Champions League in an era monopolized by super-rich clubs,” said Carlo Garganese, football expert Italy.

“Then for Juventus, it was clear it was the end for Allegri. He was too conservative to give the Champions League title to Juve. He really did not learn anything from the Atletico (Madrid) first leg.”

“Making (Mattia) De Sciglio a starter rather than (Joao) Cancelo only gives initiative to Ajax. Who cares about opinion on the bench? Win the previous match,” continued Garganese.

Amazingly, the 51-year-old coach continued to maintain his position for next season, despite failing to win the Champions League title in his fifth year in Juventus.

“A few days ago I just met with the club president and said to him if I would stay at Juventus. We will soon hold a meeting with the club to discuss the future,” Allegri said, as reported by Football-Italy.

Juventus have spent in up to 100 million euros to recruit Ronaldo, a football superstar who has won five Champions League titles. But, Allegri has difficulty building a team so he is not too dependent on him.

“Does every Juventus player think that the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo can solve every problem that is in the team? Of course not,” Allegri added.

“Yes, it’s true that Ronaldo has indeed given many things to the team throughout this season, but when you are in the Champions League quarter-finals, of course every player’s contribution is needed,” he said firmly.

This season could be called a decline for Juventus who won the Coppa Italia and Serie A in a row before. La Vecchia Signora certainly will only win the Serie A title this season, after their trip in the Coppa Italia was stopped by Atalanta.
