Frank Lampard’s Excuse on Chelsea’s 1-1 Draw Against Leicester City

DBasia.news –  Frank Lampard, the Chelsea manager, gave his response after the team drew against Leicester City in Week two of the Premier League. According to him, Chelsea were exhausted, which resulted to the decrease in the tempo of play in the second round.

Chelsea still have to be patient to wait for the first win of the season. After losing 0-4 from Manchester United, then losing on penalties against Liverpool in the European Super Cup, Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw by Leicester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday (18/8) WIB.

Having a quick lead through Mason Mount’s goal, Leicester directed by Brendan Rodgers scored the equalizing goal in the second half through a header from Wilfred Ndidi.

Lampard stated there is a fatigue factor from his team after playing for 120 minutes in the European Super Cup. The 41-year-old manager sees the same thing from Liverpool – despite their 2-1 win over Southampton.

“I hate the reason of fatigue but this is a factor in the second half of the match. I have seen Liverpool play yesterday, a challenging match for them, we both played for 120 minutes, emotions, we returned the next day at five in the morning,” said Lampard as quoted from BBC Sport.

“I think that affected us a little towards the end of the match. However, again, I think we are pretty good if it’s a factor that we can get rid of if we get better.”

Lampard asked his players to learn a lot from these results. Especially in terms of consistency in maintaining performance throughout the game.

“Yes, it’s clear the results are in the spotlight and this is strange because the performance against United in general makes me happier than today – even though we lost 0-4 and obviously against Liverpool,” added Lampard.

“However, we need both of those performances and I believe we have them because our quality is good. There are good lessons from today. We enjoyed the game in the first 25 minutes, but the rest we couldn’t enjoy. This is what we had to learn.”

“It’s clear that my special big moment is going back to the club and handling it, handling them at Stamford Bridge, I would say this is a dream, for me it’s a big thing.”

“But my focus today is the match, trying to win the match, I appreciate the fans and thank you for the support, but I am here to do the work,” explained Lampard.

Chelsea will visit Norwich City’s headquarters in Week three of the Premier League on Saturday (8/24) at 18:30 WIB.
