Gareth Bale’s agent Claims the Corona Virus Pandemic should not Affect the Player’s Salary

DBasia.news – Jonathan Barnett, who is a Real Madrid winger agent, Gareth Bale said that he did not agree with the opinion of the player’s salary or income to be reduced due to the corona virus pandemic. According to him football players must still be paid normally.

In addition to the contracts agreed upon by the players and clubs that must be respected, players who do not have a long career in the world of professional football are public attention magnets that were originally kept so that football is not left behind by fans.

“I don’t see players’ wages going down (due to the corona virus pandemic), that’s for sure. Most players have contracts. What I see is maybe clubs should see how they run their clubs a little better,” Barnett told BBC Radio 4.

“The fans came to see the players playing, no one came to see the chief executive’s game, that (the players) put money on the table.”

“This is not a question about lower-income players because this is a short period of time to get their money,” he stated.

The impact of the corona virus pandemic is indeed huge on the world of football for the past two months. Clubs are affected financially without income from television broadcasting rights, ticket sales and merchandise.

Some clubs has cut player’s salaries and some even took extreme steps in firing players (like FC Sion in Switzerland). But Barnett believes there are also contracts between players that must also be respected by the club.

Barnett further acknowledged that if there will be an impact on the decline in the price of players in the transfer market due to the corona virus, that should not happen in the long term.

“I think in the short term (there will be a decline in the price of players), but not in the long term. They (big transfers) will return. Market value will return,” Barnett added.

“You just have to look at it wisely and say, ‘This year I can’t afford it so I won’t do it this year’.”

“Act wisely and pay for what they can afford. If you they (afford to purchase), then don’t. No one will force them.”

“They can offer the player whatever money they can. If it’s right for the player, it’s OK. If not, then he stays in his place or goes somewhere else.”

“After the next television deal, they (the club) are expected to be in a better position, or once the fans start coming back they might be in a better position to do so. Then their sponsors go up and all these things come back,” he explained.
