Gianfranco Zola’s Story Becomes Chelsea Coach Assistant

DBasia.news – Gianfranco Zola’s career as a coach isn’t as bright compared to his period as a player. From West Ham United, Watford, Cagliari, and Birmingham City, he always scored the poor record.
Recently when he played for Birmingham on December 2016 to April 2017, he was fired after the team just gained two victories from 24 matches.
Now, Zola returns to the team that made his name big, Chelsea. He was appointed by Maurizio Sarri as the coach assistant. Zola also explained that he is impressed with Sarri’s decision. Moreover, his recent experience with Birmingham was painful.
“I was surprised when this opportunity came to me, I was very surprised,” Zola told reporters at Cobham Training Centre. “Considering my previous job with Birmingham, it was very painful for me. I could not believe it. This is a blessing for me.”
“This is the best reason and why I am throwing everything I have got to make the best of this experience for Maurizio and the club. I haven’t honestly thought too much about it (getting back into management). Right now, I am very happy to be the number two of Maurizio and in this club,” Zola revealed.
The 52-year-old man also shared that he learned a lot from Sarri. Despite the coaching experiences, his capability in the team management is still deficient.
In this opportunity, Zola also described Sarri as a detailed coach in preparing the team. Interestingly, even though they both come from Italy, Zola didn’t know the former Napoli coach well.
“I just spoke to him a few times in Italy. I had seen some of his work, I knew he was good but I didn’t expect him to be that good,” Zola uttered.
“I think I have seen very few coaches that when they work, they are so detailed and work so much like Maurizio does on the games and with everything he does. What you see on the pitch is the result of the huge work he does behind the scenes,” he added.
