DBasia.news – Wales’ journey under the leadership of the Manchester United legend, Ryan Giggs, was praised. It was because Gareth Bale and friends defeated the Republic of Ireland with a 4-1 score in their first match in the UEFA Nations League, Thursday (6/9) last week. Wales flew high into the sky.
But in the second match of League B Group 4 against Denmark at Ceres Park Stadium, Sunday (9/9), Giggs could do nothing seeing his squad got defeated with a 0-2 score. Wales fell to the ground due to this defeat.
Denmark’s two goals presented Tottenham Hotspur player, Christian Eriksen. The first goal was scored at 32′ using the assist from Henrik Dalsgaard. The second goal was created by a penalty kick at 63′. The Germany referee, Deniz Aytekin pointed the white spot after Wales’ defender Ethan Ampadu did a handball. It was ironic considering Ethan was one of the most complimented players in Wales’ victory against the Republic of Ireland.
After the match, Giggs admitted that he had the difficulty to maintain the 100 percent condition of the squad after defeating the Republic of Ireland. Moreover, after Denmark’s first goal, their mentality was dropped.
“When you go down and are chasing a game against a good team, it’s difficult. If we stayed in the game, even at 1-0 I’d have fancied us to get a goal. It’s my fifth game in charge so I’m happy with the progress we’re making. We took the plaudits on Thursday, now we’ve got to answer the questions after a defeat,” Giggs explained.
Actually, Denmark came to the match with an unhealthy atmosphere. No wonder, Eriksen and friends were almost canceling their support for the national team. Their negotiation with the Dansk Boldspil-Union regarding the contract was difficult.
But after achieving the agreement, Denmark coach Aage Hareide could send all the best players on the pitch. As concerned, previously Denmark listed their futsal national team players to the squad in the UEFA Nations League.
“No matter how the week developed this is what we wanted. We wanted to play some football, to win and to get a good start in this competition. It was a good start,” Eriksen said. “You could see Wales were tired after Thursday and they gave us a lot of space to play in midfield,” he continued.
