DBasia.news – Manchester City has convinced the 28-year-old midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan, to sign a new contract. The player will last until 2023.
“Ilkay Gundogan has extended a new contract with City, binding him with the club until 2023. The German midfielder has proven to be a key player in Pep Guardiola’s squad for the past three seasons,” wrote a statement on the official Man City website.
Gundogan has been with The Citizens from 2016. The ex-Borussia Dortmund midfielder was rumored to resign as he never extended his contract. Now, the speculation is over and Gundogan will side with Fernandinho and Rodri in City’s midfield.
“I am very thrilled to have signed a new contract. I really enjoyed my last three years at City and everyone at the club has made me feel at home from day one,” said Gundogan.
“It is an honor to be part of this team, to play our style of football and win trophies. It is very challenging to do so and I am happy to be a part of it. I am very excited to wait for what we can achieve in the next few seasons.”
During his three years of strengthening City, Gundogan has won two Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two League Cups and two Community Shields.
