Kylian Mbappe Apologizes for Failing as a Penalty Taker
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Kylian Mbappe apologized for failing to complete his duties as the last executioner in the penalty shootout that saw France crash out of Euro 2020. France lost on penalties to Switzerland 4-5 after 120 minutes of drawing 3-3.
Mbappe’s penalty kick was blocked by Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer. Mbappe said France had been hit hard and failing to take the penalty spot would keep him from sleeping.
“I’m sorry for this penalty. I wanted to help the team, but failed,” Mbappe wrote on Instagram.
“It’s going to be really hard to sleep after this, but unfortunately there have been ups and downs in this sport I love so much.”
“The most important thing is to come back stronger for future commitments. Congratulations and good luck to the Swiss team.”
Mbappe has indeed become a scapegoat for the elimination of France. The star is considered to have not performed optimally throughout the 2020 European Cup. Although he recorded an assist in the match against Switzerland, Mbappe has not scored a goal in this event.
Statistics show Mbappe to be one of the players who waste the most opportunities. During the four matches played, Mbappe fired 14 shots without a goal.
