LaLiga Match-Fixing Investigation Spreads to Serie A

DBasia.news –  Operation Oikos, the La Liga investigation code against corruption and scoring in Spain, is now starting to spread to the Italian Serie A.

Previously, former Real Valladolid midfielder, Borja Fernandez, was arrested on June 7 for allegedly being involved in the case, but has now been released by the police because of a lack of evidence against him. Fernandez is suspected of betting aberration in the final match of the 2018/19 La Liga, in which Valladolid lost 2-0 to Valencia. He then decided to retire after the fight.

The former Getafe player was accused of being involved in a criminal act with former Real Madrid player Raul Bravo, who was suspected of being the main actor in a series of match arrangements in La Liga, but no evidence was found that the two actually met.

At present, the focus of the investigation is on former Sevilla striker, Carlos Aranda. Interestingly, Aranda has the potential to have a relationship with Lazio striker, Ciro Immobile, and also Mattia Mariotti, who is said to be running illegal gambling.

The police are investigating a telephone conversation between Aranda and Mariotti. Aranda allegedly asked for help to contact third parties who would facilitate match arrangements and Mariotti agreed to be an intermediary.

Immobile has not been directly investigated regarding match arrangements. But in a conversation between Aranda and Mariotti, it was revealed that the Italian attacker was a member of an illegal gambling club.

Aranda and Mariotti’s conversations also have the potential to drag Frosinone who has just been relegated from Serie A. Mariotti is said to be planning to offer a scoring arrangement to three to four Frosinone players.
