DBasia.news – Lionel Messi has tried a new way to leave Barcelona, but this time it was the club’s turn to refuse to negotiate.
Spanish media stated that Messi had contacted the club to try to resolve the situation, but according to the Associated Press, Barcelona insisted they would not negotiate. The club only allows the star to leave when his contract expires next year.
Earlier this week, Messi said he wanted to request a contract clause that would allow him to leave at the end of last season, but the club said the clause had expired on June 10.
A lengthy legal battle is possible as the 33-year-old forward is expected to say the clause is in effect until the end of the season, which was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Barcelona are not willing to give up on the player, especially not for free. Messi’s contract, which expires in June 2021, has a purchase clause of 700 million euros.
Spanish media stated rgar Messi and his team contacted the club this weekend to try to discuss the situation. He has announced his intention to leave by sending the club a burofax, a certified document similar to a telegram.
Barcelona president, Josep Bartomeu is reportedly trying to meet the player after his decision to leave was announced. He later said that he was willing to resign if that was what was needed to keep Messi.
Spanish radio station, SER said on Saturday that Barcelona ended their current contract with their current law firm as they also worked for Messi.
